What is Rolfing?

Rolfing is a manual therapy designed to rebalance the body’s major segments, the head, shoulders, chest, pelvis, legs, spine, into vertical alignment by working with the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and suspends every bone, ligament, tendon, muscle, blood vessel, nerve fiber and organ in the body. Fascia thus creates a web of support, connection and communication throughout the whole body.

Classically, Rolfing is a sequence of 10 sessions spaced about 1-2 weeks apart and works in all tissues levels from surface to deep. In my practice, most of my work is done in integrative single sessions which applies the Rolfing theory and technique for more immediate attention to a particular area of the body.

The outcome of both the Rolfing 10 series and individual Rolfing sessions is to release chronic patterns of stress, tension and dysfunction in the structure which improves posture, creates more efficient movement with quicker recovery and an increase of energy in effort to expand the human potential and power of balance in body, mind and spirit.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a manual therapy that increases blood flow in the muscles and works to release adhesions, tension and tighness in the muscles.

Deep tissue is great for general health and rejuvenation of the system for all lifestyles, maintaining strength and suppleness in the muscles, pain relief, and deep relaxation.

  • This 90 minute or 2 hour session focuses on improving discomfort and dysfunction with the application of rolfiing technique and theory and myofascial release to give relief in one or more sessions depending on the severity of the issue.

  • This session is typically a traditional full body massage, which prioritizes touching into the whole body in comparison to focusing on dysfucntion in one area in the 90 minute session. This session is great for deep relaxation and general maintanence.

  • The Rolfing 10 series is 10 x 90- minute single sessions spaced about 1-2 weeks apart (please inquire about variations in this timing). The ten series includes body reading in standing and in movement to determine where the body holds imbalance. The 10 session sequence opens the body to change one session at a time, allows for the necessary time to integrate in between sessions, then goes into a deeper layer, with final integration of the whole structure in the last sessions. The outcome of a 10 series creates permanent structural change and gives a solid base for effective tune-ups into the years. It is often felt that returning to chiropratic work after a ten series makes for deeper and longer lasting adjustments.
